Sweida(a.k.a. Suwayda ) is the capital of the Syrian governorate of As Suwayda. The majority of the population consists of Druze. There are small minorities of Christians and Sunni Bedouins. As As Suwayda is one of the 14 governorates of Syria, bordering Jordan to the south, the Daraa governorate to the west, and the Rif Dimashq governorate to the north and east. Approximately 350,000 people live throughout the governorate.

Since July 2025, the city and the governorate have been the scene of heavy fighting between Bedouin tribes, supported by the Syrian army, and the residents. According to statistics from the National Hospital, the number of deaths among residents of As Suwayda so far (October 2025) is more than 3,800 people.

We do not know how many bodies are in the villages occupied by the al-Julani government, and how many have been kidnapped: more than 600 people, including children, the elderly and women. This number concerns the Druze, and this number was killed during the two days they invaded the city and killed them in their homes, and the greater part was done by means of slaughter, burning, and sniping.

The occupied villages of As Suwayda are, for example: the northern region, from Shahba to Damascus, and the western region, from Walgha to the borders of Daraa.

The al-Julani government is the Syrian government led by Ahmed al-Sharaa, alias Abu Mohammad al-Julani.
